Read-a-Thon Pillars

The Read-a-Thon has 3 main areas for families to get involved - we encourage you to do all three!

Key Dates

How do I participate?

📝 The first step is to REGISTER:

Click here to visit our fundraiser: https://givebutter.com/cmitnesrat25/join
Optionally, upload a photo of your scholar.
Populate your scholar's name in the First and Last Name fields.
- FYI This will be visible on the fundraising page initially, but you can change the display name via the instructions below)
- We also use this name to identify your scholar for PRIZES!
Populate your email address, as the parent or caregiver, in the Email field.
Populate your phone number, as the parent or caregiver, in the Phone Number field.
Set a password for your account.
Click the Sign Up button.
Join the team associated with your scholar's homeroom teacher.
Set your individual fundraising goal.
Tell your story (samples here)
Then click the Join this fundraiser button.
🔁Repeat for any additional scholars. (Note: you will need to use a unique email for each scholar. See here for tips.)

Next, you will receive an email and your UNIQUE FUNDRAISING PAGE appears

Click the large orange Donate button to make your first donation!
Share your scholar's fundraising page link by scrolling down to the share button.
- You can share directly to Facebook or X, view an email template, or simply copy and paste the unique URL to your scholar's page to text message, email, etc.
The email will also contain your scholar's fundraising page URL if you lose it. You can also email the PTO to help recover it

Tips and FAQs

🐯 More than 1 scholar: If you have more than 1 scholar you will need to register with a unique email address for each.

If you have more than one email, you can simply use a different one for each child. ~OR!~
There's a trick you can use in Gmail. Add a +1 to your email. For example, for one scholar you can use your actual email say its yourname@gmail.com. For your second scholar, you'd do yourname+1@gmail.com and yourname+2@gmail.com for your second child, and so on.

🧑‍💻 Personalize your scholars fundraising page with a photo Pages with a photo tend to garner more donations
📨 SHARE your scholar's donation link Consider family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and community businesses like doctors, restaurants, in your network. Click the Share and Manage link to share your scholar's fundraiser page.
💻 Why did we change platforms? We are trying a new platform this year to keep more of the donations! Our prior platform withheld a processing percentage.
💰How do I change my scholar's fundraising goal? Log into your account and navigate to your scholar's fundraising page. Then scroll down until you see their name. Click the Share and Manage link. Update the goal and save.
📝 I want to change my scholar's name that appears in the fundraiser. How do I do that? Log into your account and navigate to your scholar's fundraising page. Then scroll down until you see their name. Click the Share and Manage link. Update the Display Name and save.
📸 How do I add or change my scholar's photo? Log into your account and in the upper right hand corner click on your scholar's name. Select My Profile. Click the Upload button to upload a photo.
🫶 Are my donations to Read-a-Thon tax deductible? YES! We are a 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS and the State of Maryland. Your donations are charitable gifts, and we will send you a receipt!
I noticed that my scholar is not getting credit for the donations from my family; can you help? Going forward please make sure to share your scholar's unique fundraising page - their homeroom teacher and name will be in the URL. We can help correct any donations and credit your scholar. Please email the PTO: cmitespto@gmail.com.

I am getting ready for the CMIT North Elementary Read-A-Thon! This event raises money for me and my classmates to power my learning with STEAM through curriculum enrichment and technology.

EXAMPLE STORY 2:

Hi! I’m so excited for the CMIT North Elementary Read-A-Thon! 📚 Every book I read helps me imagine new inventions, explore space, and discover cool science facts. Our school is awesome at STEAM, and this fundraiser helps us get the technology and tools we need to keep learning big things.

If you support me, you’re helping me and over 600 friends dream big and reach for the stars. 🌟 Thanks for cheering me on!

EXAMPLE STORY 3:

I’m getting ready to read, read, read for the CMIT North Elementary Read-A-Thon! When you support me, you’re not just helping me—you’re helping my whole school. We work hard, do great on our tests, and love learning new things in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Your donation makes our classrooms even better and gives us fun projects to work on together. Thanks for being on my team! 🐯📖

EXAMPLE STORY 4:

Guess what? I’m joining the CMIT North Elementary Read-A-Thon! I love reading because every story takes me on an adventure. This fundraiser helps my teachers bring cool new lessons and technology into our school so we can keep being one of the top schools in the county.

With your help, my friends and I can keep chasing our big dreams. Thank you for supporting me—I promise to read my heart out! ❤️📚

Friday, October 31: Book Character Parade! Dress up as a character from a book!
